Pulse
In the ongoing project Pulse Drawings, I investigate the intense presence that arises from sensing the pulse.
Concept
Like breath, the pulse is also a reminder of now. As a sign of life-giving energy, the pulse rate is closely linked to our feelings. In the ongoing project Pulse Drawings, I investigate the intense presence that arises from sensing the pulse. Every day I place two fingers, covered with fingerprint dust, on my wrist pulse. The pulse “leaves an imprint” on my fingers that are transferred to a semitransparent drawing film. Each imprint are labeled with date, time, pulse rate and the thought passing while taking the pulse. The presence is perceived intimate yet universally valid. The project has been running since 2004. The process remains open and in progress allowing variations in implementation. By September 2016, Pulse Drawings consists of approximately 4300 imprints.
