65 299 KNOTS
– A REGISTER

and a personal story

Concept

65 299 Knots – A register starts from a personal story. One Monday in May 2009, I came home from the doctor and sat down in the armchair in my living room. I had to undergo back surgery. It was the only option to reduce the pain I was feeling. There was a waiting period for the surgery and a long recovery afterward.

Next to me on the table was a spool of black silk thread I had recently found at a thrift store. I tore off a piece and started tying a knot. Could I translate, materialize, the physical pain I felt into a knot? Not judge the pain, just observe it and tie? I did this every day, initially hanging the knots on the wall behind me. After a while, I noticed that they also had an interesting visual quality. That was the beginning of “65,299 Knots – A Register”  For 92 weeks, until the surgery was completed and I was well into recovery, I tied knots.

Now, in December 2024, I have been invited to show some of them again, at Villa Fredheim´s Christmas Marked. I have titled the small selection: "Seven weeks toward the end of a year"

Pulse

The practice of creating a work through a daily ritual, as in the project 65299 Knots, I got from my Pulse project. With Pulse I investigate the intense presence that arises from sensing the pulse with fingers dipped in fingerprint dust and transferring the imprint to a drawing film.
